Acroview Programmer Supports Maxim Integrated's Dual-Output Multiphase Controller MAX20816A

Acroview Technologies, a leader in chip programming, has officially announced the expansion of its compatible chip model coverage with the release of its latest programming software version. The company's core product, the universal programming platform AP8000, now fully supports Maxim Integrated's dual-output multiphase controller MAX20816A.

The MAX20816A provides a high-density, flexible, and scalable dual-loop solution for high-current cores in AI applications. This dual-loop solution supports up to 16 phases in total, configurable from 16+0 to 8+8 phases between rail A and rail B. Coupled inductors and smart power stage ICs are used to achieve dual high-efficiency regulators with enhanced transient response. The complete circuit is a high-efficiency (N+M)=16 multiphase synchronous buck converter with extensive state and parameter measurement capabilities. A single, scalable PCB design, combined with appropriate smart power stage IC selection, can be used to generate two power supplies with a wide rated current range. For very high current applications, PWM parallel operation allows for up to 48 phases.

The IC's simplified architecture reduces component count, enables advanced power management and telemetry, and improves energy savings across the entire load range.

Regulator parameters for protection and shutdown can be set and monitored via the PMBus™ interface. Power stage faults, input and output voltage, input and output current, input power, and temperature of the smart power stage IC can be read through the serial interface. Critical fault retention prevents thermal events after a power train fault. Preset and user configurations can be set in non-volatile memory (NVM). The MTP programmable NVM circuit allows for field modifications. An integrated 3.3V to 1.8V linear regulator provides bias power for the controller.

The MAX20816A is available in a 56-pin 7mm x 7mm TQFN package.

The AP8000 master features flexible connectivity options, equipped with both USB and NET interfaces, enabling easy networking of multiple programmers. Through the networking function, users can effortlessly achieve synchronized control of multiple programmers for efficient parallel programming operations. Regarding safety, the master incorporates an intelligent safety protection circuit that continuously monitors chip placement status and circuit connections. Upon detecting anomalies such as reverse insertion or short circuits, it immediately triggers a power-off protection mechanism, comprehensively safeguarding the chip and programmer during operation. The master is equipped with a high-speed FPGA chip, significantly enhancing data transfer and processing efficiency to ensure a smooth and efficient programming process. To enhance user convenience, an SD card slot is located on the back of the master. Users simply need to save the project file generated on a PC to an SD card, insert it into the slot, and use the programmer's physical buttons to select, load, and execute programming operations, enabling standalone operation independent of a PC. This design not only reduces reliance on computer hardware specifications but also simplifies the setup of the working environment, significantly improving operational flexibility.

In terms of expandability and compatibility, the AP8000 utilizes a modular combination design of base board and adapter board, effectively expanding the functional boundaries of the master. Currently, this device supports products from all major semiconductor manufacturers, covering well-known brands such as SK Hynix, Micron, SANDISK, ASR, and Kingston. It supports a wide range of device types, including NAND, NOR, MCU, CPLD, FPGA, and eMMC, and is fully compatible with various industry-standard file formats like Intel Hex, Motorola S, Binary, and POF, providing users with a one-stop, all-scenario chip programming solution.
